The Insurance Gap No One Talks About in Aesthetics

She did everything right. Trained. Practised. Launched her new career in aesthetics with confidence.

Then she found out she was never actually insured.

Not because she missed a step. Not because she ignored the fine print. But because she was misled by a respected training institute.

This is a real story. One of our newest team members recently discovered that her insurance policy, one she thought was valid, did not cover her because she had never completed a Level 3 qualification. She was told by her training provider that it wasn’t needed. That what she had was enough.

It wasn’t.

And unfortunately, she’s not the only one.

The Truth About Level 3 and Insurance

In the aesthetics industry, the rules around insurance can feel blurry, especially for students just starting out.

Some training centres skirt around the issue. Others bury the details in terms and conditions. But here’s the hard truth: if you haven’t completed a recognised Level 3 qualification, most insurers will not cover you, no matter what your training provider says.

It’s a harsh lesson to learn after you’ve spent thousands on CPD courses and started treating clients.

Why This Keeps Happening

Because when you’re new, you don’t know what you don’t know. You trust the trainer. You believe the brochure. You assume the course is compliant because it looks professional and the brand is well known.

But reputation does not equal regulation.

Many CPD-only courses are marketed as a fast track into advanced aesthetics, but without a Level 3 foundation, you may not be insurable. And if something goes wrong, the responsibility falls on you, not the trainer who told you it was fine.

What You Can Do Now

If you trained without a Level 3 and are currently working in the industry, here’s what we suggest:

1. Check Your Insurance Policy Today
Do not wait for a claim to test whether you are covered. Call your provider, tell them your exact qualifications, and get confirmation in writing.

2. Don’t Assume CPD Is Enough
CPD courses are fantastic for learning techniques, but they are not qualifications. If you skipped Level 3 and 4 and jumped into injectables or advanced skin, your insurance may be invalid.

3. Get Qualified the Right Way
If you find out you’re not insured, don’t panic—but do act. There are pathways designed specifically for experienced therapists and practitioners to become fully qualified without starting from scratch.

Our Commitment to Safe, Regulated Practice

At You. Academy, we meet so many students who have invested time and money into training that left them vulnerable. That’s why all our pathways are built with compliance in mind, not just short-term skills, but long-term protection.

Because being good at what you do is only half the job. Being legally and professionally protected is the other half.

If you are unsure about your insurance or your training history, we are happy to give you honest, no-obligation advice.

Even if you trained elsewhere. Even if you feel embarrassed. You deserve to be working safely and confidently.
